How to Help Your Hangover

The dreaded morning after the night before; yes we’ve all been there and it gets worse every time. Whether you’ve been at Rosie’s till Closies, had a few too many Bazza’s at SU Friday or society night just got a bit out of hand, it can actually feel like you’re genuinely dying which isn’t fun for anyone. Luckily for you, we’ve compiled a list of some tips and myths to hopefully ease your pain and get you feeling fresh as a daisy.

When you’re out;

-Make sure you eat during the day, there’s nothing worse than drinking on an empty stomach. Some may see that as a money saving tip however it’s a recipe for disaster.

-Try not to mix your drinks. Switching from wine to beer to spirits and cocktails will no doubt ensure your head gives you a LOT of grief the next day.

-Where you can, try and have the occasional glass of water between drinks to keep you hydrated.

When you get home;

-Eat! Before you go to bed, get some food down you (the perfect excuse to grab a pizza on the way home…)

-Drink as much water as you can, its also a good idea to leave yourself a fresh bottle of water next to your bed for when you wake up.

-Get into bed properly. Don’t just collapse into bed fully dressed with your shoes on, make an effort to at least get into some pyjamas and take your make up off properly, maybe even shower! You will thank yourself in the morning.

The next day;

-Get as much sleep as you can, this will aid your body’s recovery process as well as helping to catch up on the sleep missed.

-Try to avoid caffeine (including coffee, pro plus and energy drinks) as this will only dehydrate you further and add to your headache. Tea is fine to drink as this doesn’t have as much caffeine in, and the sugar in it may also help to give you a boost.

-Although the gym may be the last thing on your mind, exercise is another great way to help beat the hangover. Even just going for a walk down by the river will help to clear your head and get some serotonin pumping.

-Have a warm shower as soon as you feel able, you’ll feel much fresher and it really helps.

-Get some vitamins in your system, orange juice can be an absolute life savour!

-Try to avoid filling yourself with painkillers, as the alcohol in your system will strongly magnify their effect and could have a negative impact on your health in the long term.
