Dissertation, dissertation, dissertation...

15 February 2023 Hints & Tips

Working on your dissertation can be tedious and challenging at times. This is why we have gathered some tips for you on how to best get through this, in order to finish this in time!

The amount of work that needs to be done for a dissertation can be overwhelming sometimes. Therefore, we suggest you make a list of all the headings and subheadings that goes into your dissertation and write approximately how many words that goes into each section. This will help you break down the work into more manageable chunks.

Following, you should plan week by week which headings/sections you want to finish that week. But, do accommodate that you might not be as motivated or productive some days, or the fact that something can come up!

Aim to write a little bit every day, even if it is just a sentence or a paragraph. If you are too unmotivated one day, you can use that day to go back and proofread some of the things you have written earlier or go over your references so far and make sure that they are correct.

Allow yourself to take proper breaks in between and do something else that is non-academic. Put these breaks into your weekly schedule as well! They are just as important as anything else!

If it helps, find a study partner. Working together with someone can be very motivating, and you can help each other proofread sections or spar ideas with.

Write your introduction at the end. Only then will you have a complete picture of your dissertation and can write a good introduction.

Make sure to plan for time to proofreading at the end before submission date as well!

Get enough sleep and try to eat healthy to ensure that your concentration is on top.

Best of luck!
